Any building can be designed and made to conserve energy; Think Low Carbon is a mindset for smarter energy use in buildings by promoting the technology and techniques needed to make business and homes low carbon. A lot of these technologies and techniques are demonstrated in the Think Low Carbon Centre based on Barnsley College’s Honeywell site.
The Centre offers a practical resource for householders and business people looking to cut energy bills or see how different technologies work. Some of the features of the Centre include solar panels, a green roof, triple glazing and a building management system which automatically opens windows and vents to regulate temperature.
The Centre runs courses to instruct trades people such as electricians, plumbers and builders in the installation and maintenance of renewable, power-generating technology. Free workshops, tours and practical demonstrations are carried out by the Centre’s team.
