New publication from IHS BRE Press provides practical guidance on designing and building homes with better sound insulation.

sound insulation

With the global shift towards urban living and higher density developments, the issues surrounding noise in our homes is becoming ever more important. Unwelcome noise can be a major cause of stress and ultimately impact on the health and wellbeing of occupants and more stringently applied building regulations have been introduced to tackle this issue.
The publication funded by the BRE Trust looks at separating walls and separating floors and their associated junctions. It covers both heavyweight construction such as masonry and concrete and lightweight construction such as timber or metal. Readers will gain practical insight into how to effectively apply sound insulation on their projects.
This Good Building Guide is the second in a three-part series by authors Gary Timmins and Ian West. Visit the BRE Bookshop for more information: http://www.brebookshop.com/details.jsp?id=327551
